Since this was my first experienced in exploring the blogging world, I’d felt very excited and I liked to discover the interesting thing inside it. I love to share my ideas with the others and the others can also give some opinions and point of view when reading my reflection. On top of that, blogging for me is really fun yet interactive as it can enables me to have interactions with all my friends. Genuinely, I’m not the type person who loves to write everything in the diary. Apart from that, I’m a little bit shy to share my feeling with others. I learned to reflect myself through the writing in the blog. Truly, I don’t like to write a diary, but through blogging, I learned to practice my skill in writing the diary of my life. Thus, this blogging is the best platform for me to share my feeling and reflect back about what I’d learned in this course.
4. What I like about the course?
The course helps me in developing my knowledge about the available resources for teaching and learning activity. Through this course, I learned that there are varieties of resources available in the internet. Teacher can save time and money by searching the resources thorough this technology. I also learned on how to create some creative teaching materials by using technology such as audio cutter, PowerDirector software, and Gif animation. Now I’m able to create my own video clip, cutting and joining the audio, and create my own E-Book for teaching and learning activity. All these learning experienced really essential for me to become a creative future teacher one day. I can use all my materials that I’d developed in this course in my real classroom one day.
This course gives me guidance on how to develop teaching resources using technology as well as non-technology in order to help me in carrying out a good teaching and learning process. Besides that, I have gained some skills like photo editing, audio editing, video editing, and converting files using a lot of free software in the internet.

5. What I do not like about the course?

-the importance of technology in teaching

From my experience of learning and from the journey of reading, I grasp something valuable which that the technology is really important in using and developing resources for teaching. From my point of view, technology can be a tool for the children to communicate with each others and as the result of this interaction process, the children become an active role rather than the passive role of recipient of information transmitted by a teacher, textbook, or broadcast. I also think that by using the technology, the children can actively explore by themselves about how to obtain, manipulate and generate the information. As we approach the 21st century, we can see a major changes in roles of the teacher as well. From my observation, nowadays, the teacher is no longer the center of attention as the dispenser of information, but rather plays the role of facilitator, setting project goals and providing guidelines and resources, moving from student to student or group to group, providing suggestions and support for student activity. As students work on their technology-supported products, the teacher rotates through the room, looking over shoulders, asking when necessary and let the children themselves do their own exploration. This is what I intended in my future classroom one day. I want to give my pupils some superficial time for them to learn in their own by using the technology.

Through my reading, I also had gain knowledge that the using of technology can boost up the pupils motivation. Here is a quote from a teacher that I found really motivating in promoting technology in the classroom:

The kids that don't necessarily star can become the stars. [with technology]. My favorite is this boy . . . who had major problems at home. He figured out a way to make music by getting the computer to play certain letters by certain powers and it changed the musical tone of the note and he actually wrote a piece. He stayed in every recess. . . . When I asked him what he was working on, he wouldn't tell me. Then he asked if he could put his HyperCard stack on my computer because it was hooked up to speakers. I said "sure" and at recess. . . he put it on my computer and played his music and literally stopped the room. And for months he had kids begging him at recess, every recess, to teach them how to make music. And for that particular kid it was the world because he really was not successful academically and was having lots of problems. . . . This really changed him for that school year. -Elementary school teacher

~Kids like the immediate results. It's not a result that you can get anywhere else except on the computer. . . . For them it really is a big deal. Much more so than I ever though it was going to be. --Elementary school teacher

~Technology is the ultimate carrot for students. It's something they want to master. Learning to use it enhances their self-esteem and makes them excited about coming to school. --Fifth grade teacher

~The computer has been an empowering tool to the students. They have a voice and it's not in any way secondary to anybody else's voice. It's an equal voice. So that's incredibly positive. Motivation to use technology is very high. --Elementary school teacher

Now, I strongly admit that technology should be an integral part of the learning environment. Children nowadays are immersed in a daily life full of computers and other technological advances. I recommend that the schools in Malaysia should reflect this change in the classroom. Integration of technology does not mean placing a computer in the corner of the classroom and leaving it un-touched throughout the semester. Thus, technology must be incorporated in all aspects of the curriculum for our students’ benefit.

For third and fourth lesson plan, I planned to do skill of writing and reading as these two skills are crucial and difficult skill for the Year 1 pupils to acquire. I choose a variety of materials and teaching aids for these lesson plans. I always use the pictures of video clip as my set induction since these materials can grab pupils’ attention towards my lesson. Instead of teacher say directly the topic of the day, let the pupils explore the topic by themselves indirectly through their watching and observation of the pictures or video clip. Teacher can ask them to guess the topic of the day after that. This can enhance the pupils’ eagerness towards the topic of the day. For the pre stage in the writing skill, I did some changes as I let the pupils to watch the video clip and at the same time they will learn through the video clip. It helps to stimulate pupils’ thinking as while watching they are also learns about the topic of preposition. For me, the video clip also helps the teacher to teach the topic of the lesson as the video itself contain teaching points. Since I thought that video clip is a good tool in enhancing pupils’ learning, I managed to find lots of video clip that I thought might suitable to be used in these two lesson plans. Hopefully, I can be able to use all these video clips in the real classroom one day. I also hope that I can gain something worthwhile from the result of this lesson plans assignment since I put a lot of effort in completing all these 4 lesson plans and I expect to use all my lesson plans during my teaching profession in the future.

second lesson plan reflection

~ here for the second lesson plan, i wanted to do listening skill as this skill is suitable for the topic of direction. i did some research to find suitable activity in the internet. There are various of activity that I’d found in the internet. I choose to use this web http://www.esolht.org.nz/tutors/resources/findingway.pdf for my teaching aid as there are lots of teaching aids for teaching directions in this web. I wanted to use the map in the web as it was simple yet attractive to be used for Year 1 pupils. I also found an interesting video clip that can be used in set induction. Here is the link to the video clip:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vr9mLP6NwnU

I think that this video clip is can attract pupil’s attention as it teaches left and right with fun song and attractive puppet as a tool to show the actions. Pupils love to watch something difference and the puppet show in the video clip can trigger the pupils’ to focus and follow the activity at that time. It also helps the teacher to introduce the topic of the lesson in simple but fun ways. Instead of find difficulty in time by producing something new, the teacher just need to find the suitable video clip and easily modify and show to the pupils. It is more applicable in terms of time and money. Here I noticed that internet is the best resources for the teacher to use as it gives so many teaching and learning activity that are suitable for the classroom. It’s up to the teacher to find the best activity for teaching.

first lesson plan reflection

I choose to do speaking skill first for my lesson plan as i already had planned the activity for this skill. For set induction, i choose to use video as the video is a good way in capturing and to arouse pupils’ attention towards the lesson on that day. For the while, I thought of using the display sheet with the answers paste on it as it can give a better view for the pupils as they can see clearly the sentences in front of the class compare to just use the task sheet, the pupils may not be able to speak out the answer as the pupils in Year 1 may not develop yet their eyes coordination, thus they will find difficulty to see clearly the small words in the task sheet. For post, I had using the work sheet act as additional tool for the pupils in enhancing their understanding of the lesson that day. Work sheet provided is a good way for the pupils to practice using the language as they need to complete the task individually. This can give the pupils chance to test themselves whether they understand the lesson taught or not. Work sheet provided also with large size of words and with simple sentences, so that pupils can do the task without facing any difficulty.

Assignment 3 in process

For this third assignment, i got Year 1 topic which is 'How Do I Get there'. Through my searching, i had found that basically the topic teaches the pupils about the simple directions and preposition of locations. Since i got Year 1 topic, i had to bear in mind how the children in this stage learned, their cognitive development and how to boost up their motivation towards the learning process. Thus, from my reading and previous learning about the young learners characteristics, i should know already on how to make the learning fun for the young learners. My teaching and learning process should be interactive and enjoyable for them to learn. Now, i realized that to be a good teacher is really tough as i need to consider all the factors to make the teaching and learning more effective. Here by doing this assignment, the learning process take place so that i can become a good and practical teacher one day.Hopefully..

Microsoft Publisher
